Autumn 1- Would I survive on a desert island?

The children had a great time in Autumn 1 learning about all things desert island. We love the book 'The Island' by Mark Janssen. We had a great time creating our own journeys on wonderful creatures to strange and mysterious places.
This topic was great chance for the children to learn all about maps. We loved spending time creating treasure maps. We learnt all about how to use maps and how to create keys to help people read our maps. Our science revolved around materials. The children learnt all about how to test materials to find the most suitable material for a task. From their learning, they went on to create boats that they could use to escape the island.
Autumn 2- Why was the Fire of London so Great?

This term we have travelled to the past. The children have immersed themselves in 1666 London at the time of the great fire. We have learnt lots about what London was like in 1666 and the devastation the fire caused. The children learnt all about how the fire started, why it spread so quickly and how the tried to fight the fire. The children had a great time building Tudor  houses and watching them burn as the fire spread from our very own bakery on Pudding Lane. In Music, we learnt to sing the song 'London's burning' and then learnt about how we can sing this in a round. The children also learnt lots about tone and dimension whilst creating collages of the great fire in Art.
