The ARB are now part of the Special Partnership Trust.
Welcome to the ARB Class where Mr Ian Atherton is the class teacher and Miss Brenda Matthews, Mrs Ann Ketteringham, Miss Haley Spillman and Miss Elizabeth Nichols are the teaching assistants. The children follow the expectation of the National Curriculum at their own level of learning, with an additional focus on each child's individual EHCP (Education, Health & Care Plan) and SALT (Speech & Language Therapy) targets. The learning is carefully planned for each child to ensure that all children are motivated and excited to learn. Life skills are an important part of the curriculum for the children in the ARB.
The focus for many of our younger children is communication skills and social skills. They learn through an Early Years-style 'continuous provision' of interesting and exciting games and activities. They have access to a range of sensory experiences, along with plenty of time outdoors. They regularly visit the Nursery Garden and the sand & water area. Each week they take part in whole-class PE, as well as Show & Tell and Golden Time.
When our children are ready for more curriculum learning they complete daily reading, literacy, maths and topic tasks. One morning a week is set aside for arts & crafts. They still have plenty of space and time for movement breaks, and also visit the library and eco garden. Each week they complete team building, social skills and forest school activities. They often integrate with mainstream classes for PE, phonics and Topic sessions.
